NTT Indycar Series

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is North America's premier open-wheel series that races on superspeedways, short ovals, permanent road courses, and temporary street circuits.

At its heart lies the Indianapolis 500, the series' crown jewel event that showcases the ultimate test of skill, endurance, and precision at speeds reaching 370 km/h on the 4.02 km oval.

Competition Format

THE NTT INDYCAR SERIES competes on three types of circuits throughout the season.

Cars

All competitors race in one class with standard specifications to ensure fairness.

CHASSIS

The chassis, supplied by Dallara, is designed for versatility across superspeedways, short ovals, road courses, and street circuits. This uniformity places greater emphasis on driver skill and team strategy.

ENGINE

In 2024, INDYCAR introduced the 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine with hybrid technology as its powerplant, capable of producing 550-700 horsepower. Teams have the option of using engines from Honda or Chevrolet.

Tyre Technologies

Firestone has driven to victory 75 times at the world-renowned Indianapolis 500 between 1911-2024 and has been the NTT INDYCAR SERIES exclusive tyre supplier for the past 26 consecutive seasons.

Sustainability

Bridgestone and INDYCAR are committed to ensuring that racing continues to evolve responsibly.

RENEWABLE FUEL

INDYCAR has made significant strides in renewable fuel adoption, becoming the first major open-wheel racing championship to introduce 100% renewable race fuel.

NATURAL RUBBER ALTERNATIVE

Beginning in 2022, Bridgestone introduced natural rubber derived from Guayule desert shrubs in the sidewalls of the Firestone Firehawk alternate race tyres made for NTT INDYCAR SERIES street course races.

INDY 500 TYRE

Since 2023, Bridgestone has provided Firestone Firehawk race tyres for the Indianapolis 500 that integrate materials made from hard-to-recycle plastics (2023) and palm oil waste residue* (2024 and 2025).

*Recycled material is allocated using the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) mass balance approach. Find out more about ISCC and our ATPC ISCC Plus certification at: www.iscc-system.org.

VERSATILITY BREEDS CHAMPIONS

Races take place on very diverse circuits, including iconic venues like Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Road America, each demanding adaptability and precision from drivers and teams alike.

TYRES DEFINE STRATEGY

Teams receive primary and alternate Firestone tyres for street, road, and one oval event. Each compound offers distinct grip and durability benefits and must be used for at least two laps, adding a strategic challenge to race-day planning.
